Winks of God – September 2026

September has arrived with a “change in the air” as the school year begins and we prepare to transition into a new season.

This week, I heard something that I’ve never heard before, an orchestra of birds singing outside my bedroom window! When I went to check it out, I was stunned to see the tree filled with birds, all singing together.

What a delightful “Wink of God!”

And what made it even more special was that the birds were yellow, and for me, the colour yellow is a symbol of JOY.

I also had the privilege of visiting my 89-year-old aunt, who lives in the Cut Knife Care Home. Her condition has recently deteriorated, and it was a gift to be able to accompany her to the weekly Mass, which Fr. Barry Tkachuk celebrates on Tuesday mornings, and then to have a visit together afterwards.

It was a beautiful, sunny day, and as I drove from Battleford toward the town of Cut Knife, I was surprised to see the moon clearly visible at 9:29 in the morning.

Surrounding the moon were wispy clouds that looked like angel wings, some large and others smaller. I felt in awe as I watched that beautiful sky!

As I drove back to Wakaw, my heart was filled with gratitude for ALL the blessings of the day.

It was a miracle that I was able to drive there and back—over six hours—as I normally can’t drive for long periods of time. What a confirmation that God will give us the grace and strength we need, when we need it!

As we head into autumn, the “Season of Surrender,” the words of the Faith poem attributed to Patrick Overton are a powerful reminder to TRUST God to take care of everything, even when things seem humanly hopeless or impossible. Its beautiful image of walking to the edge of the light we have and trusting God as we step into the unknown.

Sometimes we are given something solid to stand upon.

And sometimes, we are taught to fly.

May this season remind us that even when we cannot see what lies ahead, we can trust the One who does.

"When you walk to the edge of all the light you have and step into the darkness of the unknown, you must believe that one of two things will happen: There will be something solid to stand upon, or you will be taught to fly.”
